Finished the previous day in a corn field and woke up to the sun being shaded by the corn stalks. It was hot all night, but once in a while there would be a gust of wind that cooled me down.
Got my walk on, it was a hot humid day. I saw on the weather report that it was supposed to start raining around one, I had seen a subway up the way on my map and decided I'd walk to there and get a sub.
I timed it perfect. Right when I got 300 feet of the subway it started raining. When I entered the subway it started pouring. I chilled out there for a while and talked to the folks around.
Got booking again, made it to a state reserve called Angel Mounds. Which is a historic Indiana ancient metropolis. I thought it sounded pretty neat, and since I was only a little walk away from it, I decided to check it out.
They had a fairly large Museum on the grounds. Sitting at the front desk was a cute girl about my age. She told me that there was some hiking trails out around the back. I thought it was pretty funny. I told her I was down to just take a look around the museum and told her a little about the walk. I noticed that there was an entrance fee on the museum and I didn't want to pay it. I was chatting with the girl and then was about to exit when she told me I could just slip in and check it out for free. Sweet! Thank you!
It was neat, they had a cool display going on inside the place that described the life of the indians that once lived there. There were several mounds around the site, one of the biggest ones was where they chief kept his house. It was nearly 50 feet tall and 700 feet in length.
Said goodbye to the girl at the front desk. Before I left I asked here about her it dream in life. Hers was to be an archeologist and to go to Siberia to escalate some new bogs that are starting to dry up near the land bridge connecting Asia to North America. I thought it was pretty interesting so I talked to her about it for a while.
I hope she makes that dream come true!
Kept walking, it was around 5:30 when I hit up Ryan Hicks, son of Mr. Hicks who had offered me a place to stay up by his place in Henryville. Ryan had contacted me while I was walking saying if I needed a place to stay in Evansville that he would be happy to host! Sweet!
He and his friends came to pick me up. They were working on painting the fraternity house they had when I came by. It was a pretty neat house, had a big yard that encircled it. It was three stories and had a slide from the top story down to the floor. Tight. There were people just chilling around and I got to meet them all.
They were all a real good group of people just down to hang. I felt like I was at home kicking it with them. We had a few beers and the night rolled on. It was good stuff. Got a bit of a buzz on. Played a game of beer pong up in the attic and then a game of pool down on the bottom floor. I was already feeling the booze and got a lot of balls in for the other side, whoops! We still won and it was a great time.
Hit back over to Ryan's house and his room mate jammed it up on the keys. He rocked it. Played some covers that were really good.
