Today's title: Fish Off The Bone.
Today I blasted across the trail, made my first 10 miles very quickly. Made it into a town called lexington. It looked like a well kept small town. Saw a gas station, figured I'd go in and say and see what was around town.
Went in and met Ginger, she just had bought the shop s few weeks ago and was getting everything rolling. She told me there was a store dowthe way that also serves food called Leroy's. Awesome.
I also told her about the walk when she asked. She thought it was pretty cool and asked if I need a refill on some water. Sure! She gave me over six water bottles! Wow. Thank you!
Made my way to Leroy's. Ordered a double bacon cheese burger with spicy fries... Mmmmm... Sat down and worked on some stuff on my iPad. Food came out, it was amazing! As I was sitting their a lady, her name is Bernice, didn't say anything but just took my ticket off the table. She returned and said that she had take care of it! Wow! I think she owned the store, that was very nice of her! Thank you!
Continued down the road. It was hot. I perspired so much! By the time I got to my 20 mile I was pretty spent. A car came drivin down the roads and stopped. He asked me if I needed a place to sleep for the night, he said I could set up on his property by his lake. That would be cool! Sure!
Went with them to their house. His name was Greg Hicks and his son was in the car Kyle Hicks, he was in 7th grade. I chilled out with Kyle till the sun came down, shooting hoops in the backyard. Kyles friend came over to spend the night and they decided to go fishing, we all said we would eat whatever they caught. They caught like 8 fish, blue gill and bass.
Me and Kyles friend chopped off their heads in the dark with some flash lights and got the fish ready. Kyle thought it was gross haha. We wrapped those suckers up in tin foil and throw them on a fire we got going in the backyard. We all hung out under the stars eating the fish off the bone.
Greg's friend an co worker, the ran a painting business, was there too. His name was Phill. He was a quiet humble man with a bunch of tatoos on his arm. He would stare out in front of him real stoic like and just sit and mostly only talk when he was talked to. They were all cool guys.
The boys headed in and greg gave phill a ride home. I was about to go asleep in my tent when greg pulled back in. I got up to say goodnight. We sat on their picnic bench talking for a bit, and he told me the very interesting story of his life.
Little did I know, but he was missing an eye ball! He tapped on his fake with his glasses . He was in a serious accident at home. He used to be a car driver who raced, but after seeing his friend get into a serious accident and get a torn retina, he decided to quit, realizing that he didn't have another eye to lose.
I can see he missed it a lot. He showed me pictures, of other events in his life. It was real neat.
Before he retired he offered me a shower in the morning and gave me a gift towards my travels. Very nice of him!
